Ningyocho Reflections

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Ningyocho is one of the Shitamachi parts of Tokyo.  Shitamachi literally means “down town,” but I like

to translate it as an “old part of town.  There are shitamchis all over tokyo.  Even though they are slowly being rebuilt and gentrified.

As I walked the streets I was fascinated with the window.  The way the glass, old and new would reflect bits of reality in its self, and then into my lens.  A metaphysical melding of my photographic world with the world that surrounds me.

Look into the glass, and tell me what you see.

Brozers Burger

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

I don’t usually blog about food, but this is an exception.

I have heard of this burger shop Brozers, in my quest to find the

best burger in Tokyo, so being in Ningyocho today I decided to check them out

and see how they compare to my favorite Firehouse.

I ordered a Cheeseburger that came with 2, yes only 2, onion rings, and fries.  The burger was delish.

A great bun, tender beef and a hint of BBQ sauce.

If you want to know more about burgers in Japan check this site http://www.hamburger.jp/

also this blog is from a Japanese burger lover.

Zushi, Closer than You Think

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

Some of the backstreets of Zushi, you slip into another

world separate from the urbanites of Tokyo.

The cracked asphalt that has been weathered by the sea mist and the blazing sun.

Zushi, Where the Beach is

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

I had the chance to hop on the train for about 90 minutes and hit the

beach side town of Zushi in Kanagawa.  I am not the biggest beach lover

in the world, but I did grow up in Miami, and there still is a special place

in my heart for the sand, surf, and shells.

Japanese beaches are nothing like back in Florida.  But the beach culture

was a trip.  Hope I can get back out again this season.

Obama, Aso and Guns in Ueno

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Today is Obon Buddhist holiday.

Most people are off and either taking it easy, or

returning to see their family.

I hadn’t ventured into Tokyo for a few days due to other plans, and rain, so

I in the late afternoon, walked around Ueno and Asakusa.  I needed a new pair of

rather large Zori (Japanese sandals) and there aren’t many places that carry a 30 cm, or size

12 in Tokyo.  It was hot, and I wandered around for a little bit.

Hopefully, Wednesday, the weather will be more perfect more exploring about.

Wandered around Roppongi area during the day the other day.

Roppongi is a pretty seedy place.  I don’t often go there, but the area

takes on a completely different character in the daytime than night.

Wandering the baking streets, surrounded by concrete and metal, shooting

what needs to be shot.
