Popmaster Fabel and the History of Dance in Hip Hop Culture

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Coral Springs on a cool Saturday night in Coral Springs Miami was the place to get in touch with some of the roots of Hip Hop Culture with Spanish Harlem native PopMaster Fabel.  The room at Catalyst was packed with hip hop heads, the Miami Chapter of Zulu Nation, and youth of all ages as PopMaster Fabel took the stage and engaged the crowd in a historical roots of Hip Hop dance.

It was a great to learn about the roots of Hip Hop culture and see the Miami community come out and welcome PopMaster Fabel with open arms.

Miccosukee Power, and the Everglades

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Sorry it has been so long since I have given any update with me being in Miami.  My computer promptly crashed the second night I was here, and I was without my own laptop for a few days.

I got the chance on a warm February day to journey out to the Everglades with my family.  It was great to breathe in the clean air and soak up the clouds, sawgrass, and alligators.

It reminded me so much of my youth being out in the tall grass.

lovely day, lovely people, and lovely nature.

Sergios 11 p.m., Miami Time for a Change

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

After the over 24 hour journey from my home in Japan to my home in Miami came to a halt in Sergio’s place at 11 p.m. Valentines Day Night.  Had a crappy egg cheese and tomato cuban sandwich which was good enough to satisfy my hunger.

Jet lag is a complete bitch, so I will let this one slide.

It was 2 Degrees in Downtown Ginza

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Getting ready to make that trip back to the states, I went into Ginza to do some souvenir shopping.  It wasn’t the best day to go to a department store it being, both a holiday and the Friday before Valentines day, so it was a bit packed.

We had lunch at an Okinawan restaurant, as we watched the snow fall to the city streets below.  Kind of a weird feeling eating warm  Okinawan, food inside while we watched snow fall from the 12th floor of the Mitsukoshi Department store.

Perming in the Urban Garden

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Seated in front of a hair salon in Nishi Kasai, were all these potted Aloe plants.  They were just there adding some green to their concrete surroundings.  Step inside, get a perm, pick a leaf of Aloe to soothe your burns, or dry skin.  All at the Lets Perm Salon.

It is All Available in a Square

Everybody has heard how tightly packed everything is here in Japan.  No room at times to even stretch ones legs.  For the most part this is true, and to show and this image shows it in a visual exploration of urban Japan.  It is all so neatly packed and full of the essentials, stamps, drinks, smokes, a door, and an izakaya (drinking place).

One Night the Darkness Came Early

Monday, February 7th, 2011

I had gathered my coat, scarf, and bag before stumbling out into the cold Chiba night.  It was only 6:30 but the haze of the early party swirled in my head.  The air felt so refreshing after inhaling other peoples smoke for the last 2 hours.  I walked the familiar streets back to the station, pausing a few times to see some lights that caught my eye.

The lights just come alive at night.  Even though at times so much light pours onto the streets that becomes a artificial fluorescent day.

I kind of like it a bit when the darkness comes so early, but I look forward to those long summer days that aren’t to far away.

Walls, Just some Kasai Walls

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

The sun shone down on the old riverside section of Kasai.  A couple gorgeous walls stopped me on my way back home.  Just  some simple found blue, concrete, trees, and some graffiti tags.  Just some reminders of the simple gorgeous beauty of my little neighborhood of Kasai.

Double Your Leather Pleasure, Pair of Lost Gloves, Urayasu

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

A pair of leather gloves, waiting to be worn by their owner once again.  There they were.  They were just perched ever so gently on a rough cinderblock wall.  There they sat just half a block from the entrance to Urayasu station.
