MOZE in the Park, Sunnyside Walk

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

I made up my mind to go on a little local stroll across the Maihama bridge to go to the community pool in order to beat the heat.  Sweat rolling down my temple I made my way across the bridge only to discover that the pool was closed for its twice a month cleaning.

So, after a quick lunch in the park lots of big black ants we journeyed over to the Nishi Kasai Community Outdoor pool to seek some refuge from the sun.  It was packed with families, kids, couples, and me.  It was a nice little escape just to float and let the water push me around.

On the little footbridge over the street my man MOZE had been there.  I can’t help myself.  I just got to collect photographs of MOZE’s tags.

Ueno in August, Pipes, and Lotuses

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

After visiting the heart of Tokyo today, I am thankful for being close to Tokyo Bay.  It might not be much of a difference, but being near the water does keep things a bit cooler.  Surrounded by all that concrete and steel juts breeds hot air.

Wandering around some of the backstreets of Ueno is always an interesting for me and my lens.  I am never quite sure what I am going to find.  Walls that have been completely taken over by pipping and meters, A beautiful Lotus pond full of blooming flowers.  All harmonizing in the summer heat.

Trod into that shade.  The shade that has the power to soothe a hot soul.

The shade that causes I to pause, and inhale deeply.

These are the other images taken on my bicycle ride through Kasai on Friday afternoon.  Lots of windows, shadows and angles.  All intensifying under the heat of the sun.  Keep hydrated, seek the shade and enjoy.

I’m Melting, I’m Melting

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Ok, so I am not really melting, but it certainly feel that way.  You know its hot when you can feel the heat though the soles of your shoes.  That is the kind of heat we had today, and If it is a sign of what is to come, I know we are in for a hot Tokyo summer.

At least in the late afternoon, on my walk home, the sun was beginning to come down, and the mercury dropped a little.  The shadows were sharp and crispy like saltines.  The edges so defined between the shade and the lit part of some images.  I prefer the shade, at least to cool my weary head.

Lost keys, a found slapped images of Edison, I think.  If so, why would someone paste a tiny picture of Edison to a light pole?  That is beyond me.

The Other Side of Geometry

Friday, July 9th, 2010

There are two basic themes in my work these days.  One is seeing the shapes, and angles that make up the concrete metropolis that I inhabit.  The other, still based on shapes, but in an abstracted way.  That is what these images represent.  That same world close up.  That same world that plays with all the elements of image construction.

Sautéing Skies Under the Overpass

Monday, July 5th, 2010

As the sun was low in the sky this afternoon, the skies looked like onions Sautéing in the sky.  Quickly the skies turned brown, and no long after that they opened up and let loose droplets from the sky.

The alternating light and dark spots were what stopped me in my tracks to snap a picture.

Poor Jonah

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

“Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.” Jonah 1:17

Poor Jonah spent three nights inside the great fish.  What amount of faith it must have taken to survive that ordeal.  Keep up the good spirits.  Do the good works.  Strive to survive in this crazy world.

Buttons of Mt. Fuji and a Little Monocrome

A slice of oddness from the wanderings on the edge of Tokyo today.

Another found image of Mt. Fuji.  I am starting to come to grips with the Japanese obsession with the dormant volcano.  A lost idol that no longer has it’s idolater.   A fraction of an image that only reveals its self in the past.

Monoprints: January 2009

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

In my mixed media art class today we worked on making mono prints.  I hadn’t made any mono prints on paper for quite a long time and it was quite exciting to make them again.  There is a freedom found in their simplistic nature.  The act of knowing that once you ink up a plate and press it to the paper that is the only exact one you can ever get.
