Sunday, Buttercup Day

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Buttercups are one of the few flowers I have memories attached to as a youth.  I remember picking them in Miami, and being amazed at the fact that they do kind of smell like butter.  Found this one on a Sunday afternoon as I was making my way around the neighborhood.  Such a little wonder, but it was holding it’s own against the wind blowing in off Tokyo Bay.

Clouding Sunning in the Bokeh

Friday, May 13th, 2011

After the last two days of constant, persistent rain the sun finally made an appearance.  The humidity pushed near 100% this morning.  I suspect nature is giving us all a hint of what the summer will be like.

Even though I was born and raised in Miami, I have become fore accustomed to less humid and hot weather, because I haven’t lived in Miami for over 20 years now.  So what I am getting at that I will be baking once that mercury hits 35 (95).

Therefore as the clouds played hide and seek with the sun, I chose to get lost in the bokeh.  The blur that is created by having a shallow depth of field.  The rich colors, blur into the near distance.  The little speckles of life that come alive in miniature.

Loose yourself in color.  Stay aware of the goings on in the world, but don’t forget to touch those colors.

Only a Puff of Wind

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

It has been a bit of an emotional week.  From feelings of complete numbness to the loss of family that just tugged at my soul.

For over a month now I have been photographing, almost exclusively, flora and fauna.  I am just transfixed by their ability to thrive, while I and my neighbors have to deal with the everyday stress of just being.  I am thankful for their constant reminder of the beauty and the determination of nature.

Dandelions, a simple beautiful flower to some and just a weed to others.  They are edible and can be eaten as a salad.  After the flowers come and the petals fall all that is left is a little fluff of seeds.  The seeds just wait for a puff of wind to send the seeds out to the world.  To find some crack, soil, or potted plant to grow into next seasons dandelions.  Such a simple mechanism to maintain the dandelions.

I am hopeful that fore seeds of faith, and love will spread out into the world.  The seeds can take root in some of the most obscure places.  Will these thoughts and images of mine find some where to take root.  Will people see the seeds, and make the choice to give them some nutrients and help them grow?

I can only hope so.

Speed those seeds.

Stepping into the Violet

Friday, April 29th, 2011

I admit it.  I am completely utterly flower obsessed this spring. I have always had an appreciation for the spring but this year it has taken on life changing proportions.  The situation in Japan, in a larger picture the state of the world, has forced me to look at my situation and see what needs changing.  What are the things that need to change?

Change is a life long process.  I can not be happy with my past accomplishments but I must strive to seek out new accomplishments.  I must challenge my lens to seek out other worlds.  I do not know where my lens will lead me next, but I am sure wherever I end up it is where I am suppose to be.

Come, step into the violet, with me.

Just Blurring into the Twilight with Flowers

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Taken the other day when the skies were filled with yellow sand, and the skies turned to violet.  It fits, the blur, the bright, and muted all working in harmony to create a smooth end to a long day.  A day that was filled with doubt, dust and odd conversations.

Saved by the flowers that have been with me this spring.  They wont leave my side until the petals fall and are replaced by new growth as summer is just a little while away.

I Got Lost in the Bedazzle

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

In my continuing series of lost and found objects, I came across this rhinestone studded hair clip in my neighborhood. It was just shinning in the setting sun.  The sparkles of those rhinestones, and the glint of the golden paint.  Such a gaudy and beautiful object.  Just sitting there on top of a electrical box at a traffic light.  Sometimes it is the simplest of pleasures to brighten my day.  So, be on the look out for that shine.

Keyed in Ichikawa

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Rain was splattering away for most of the night and into the afternoon.  Luckily as I headed back to the station the sun was struggling to poke out from behind the clouds.  It didn’t show us that yellow light for very long, but I was thankful that it wasn’t raining.

We all need to search and find the key to our happiness, and be thankful once we found it.  And once we find what we are suppose to be doing, we must pursue it with our whole heart.

Amen

Tokyo Forrest Revisited

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

On my way to meet up with some mates I passes by a poster I have seen many times.  I first photographed it about 2 years ago.  I couldn’t pass up the chance to revisit this image.  It is wedged in between Otemachi and Tokyo station.  There along this old stretch of corridor there hangs a lovely urban forrest.  A constant  reminder to me of the disconnect that we feel living among the concrete, iron and neon of Tokyo.  There is sits on the wall, slowly yellowing, with its leaves never shedding.

It is lost time, or it is time that has been lost.

I guess it all depends on one’s point of view.

Color is Love

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

The rain just keeps on falling and falling.  The earth is soaked to breaking point, yet there is a bright path of color.  Another last bit of glory from the never ending summer.  The luscious colors of nature mix and match with the urban surroundings.

Old Louis Vuitton Got Himself Lost

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

I have been searching out the lost and found objects for about 9 years or so.  So many object lost and so many of these object found.  All have been gently placed with the intention of them being found by their owner.  Just another two keys that have been lost.  What do they unlock?  Will they ever slide into that lock agin?  Only the most high knows.
