To Shine or Shy

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

We have all been there at some point in time.  We are faced with the choice to shine or to shy away.  I think we all want to shine, but sometimes our doubts get the best of us, and we shy away from the challenge.  We listen to the self doubt, rather than to have the confidence in our ability to shine in our gifts.

All the gifts we have been given, are from above; however, this will only get you so far.  You need, we need, to reach deep with in our soul to find the energies to push ourselves to the places that we want to be.  If we shy away, and ignore them, we will never be able to be satisfied with ourselves.

I can only get there though heavy soul searching and becoming introspective.  I have to look at where I have been to understand where I am now, and where I want to go.  I understand why many out there in the world, never take the time to know the soul that reflects to themselves in the mirror.  It is a difficult task. For many out there is easier to bury your head in the sand, and just ignore it all.  I, myself, can never do that.  The pain that I would feel from ignoring my place in the world, would be to much to bear; therefore, I have got to be who I am, and that journey is never finished.

The wind may blow and push us around, but we must be both flexible so as not to break, and strongly rooted in the earth, to now be blown away.

The choice is yours, to shine, or to shy.

I Dreamed I Awoke in my First House

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Wandering the streets is just something that I need to do.  I also need to wander though the memory and synapses of my mind to be able to share some of myself with those that are also thirsty to see.  Wandering the backstreets of Ichikawa, can be a physical manifestation of the labyrinth of my soul.  I wander the streets, intentionally trying to loose my way.  To turn a corner to find that mystery at the end of a long left turn.  Sometimes there is a dead end, and the mind, and camera must turn around and become lost in the maze of asphalt again.

So, wander, get lost in yourself and find those dark places that need to be discovered in order to keep balance in your life and my life.

The Painted Church of the Big Island

I never would have stopped over at the The Painted Church also known as St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church if it wasn’t for Sam at the HOLUALOA UKULELE GALLERY who told us we can’t miss this little gem.  And Sam was surely right that it was a special place.  It was all painted by Father John Berchmans Velge in the the very early 1900’s.  Wandering around the grounds and inside the little church that was more like a home than a church.  The dedication and love for his faith is so beautifully illustrated on all the surfaces of the church.

Trickster Abstractions

Back to one of my favorite subjects.  The political tricksters ant their posters.

I am not sure why I am so drawn to these gaudy posters.  It might be the challenge

in their pure horror, and ugliness to create something abstract and intriguing.

I see photography as a process, which the goal is to create the best possible image.

This of course starts with the way the image was shot, which camera was used, exposures and

what have you, but it does not end there.  One needs to keep on pushing and pulling the image

until the image satisfies something in your soul.  When it does it is ready to be shown.
